A welcome to my Tues. hybrid class!

Hello, everyone!

This is where 10% of your grade begins. The rules for the discussions are as follows:

1. You will be posting a blog on an issue. What you will do is EMAIL to me the blog on the issue you wish to cover and the commentary you wish to add to the topic (naturally, you've got to start the conversation). I will post it up on the blog site for your classmates; whereupon, the discussion will begin.

2. You will also be responsible for CONTRIBUTING your thoughts, comments, theories, comparisons, rants, raves, inquiries, outrage, etc. on each of the blogs posted by your classmates. It's a give-and-take discussion, as well it should be.

3. Your blog postings and responses must NOT be anonymous. It wouldn't make much sense to grade an anonymous contributor when I wouldn't know to whom I'd grant the grade, would it?

4. Since your blog postings and commentaries aren't going to be anonymous, I expect you to respond thoughtfully and intelligently. Please note, however, that I will not censor your writing. I strongly adhere to the ideology of freedom of speech. I simply ask that you refrain from using vacuous vulgarities and brash insults directed at your fellow commentators. That's not adequate argumentation, in any case.

5. Your blog issue will be on a CURRENT topic that's debatable. This may require you to start reading the newspaper and newsworthy magazines, watching the tube, browsing the internet, and so forth. Direct your blog commentators to certain stories/articles on the topic as well, to assist in your discussion and their contributions.

6. Bear in mind, folks, I'll be contributing, too! Don't let MY vantage dissuade you from posting either (in good argumentation, no side is 100% right or wrong!). That certainly ISN'T what freedom of speech entails. In other words, feel free to disagree with my views. Just be prepared to back up your claim!

7. Have a good time with this. What I hope this blog will do is free your mind a bit and give you some ideas as to research paper topics you might not have thought of before!

So, without further adieu... Let's begin with something easy --

Each of you introduce yourself and give us ONE pet peeve -- one thing that irritates you -- big or small -- that really gets under your skin.

I'll start:

I'm MacKenzie Jennings, and lately, I've been quite irritated with the number of license plates and bumper stickers that indicate drivers' political and/or religious agendas. Personally, I think they should be replaced with messages indicative of the drivers' driving habits instead.

  1. Hello I'm Christine and what really irritates me is when customers come to my job and ask for the prices of the food when there is a big sign in front of them with all the prices. Also when they ask for something they dont see on the table.

  2. Hello I'm Alex Martinez Rivera, and lately, I been seeing that more drivers are cruising along the passing lane/left lane creating slower lanes than the rest of the traffic. They're oblivious to the fact that they're causing bottlenecks. There would be a lot less road rage if people would simply be aware of those around them.

  3. I’m Ashlyn Cobb, and my biggest pet peeve is when people confuse words like you’re and your; or their, there, and they’re. I have seen this done on so many signs around town. It is such a small mistake, but it makes a large difference in the way people (or maybe just me) perceive what the sign advertises.

  4. I am Aaron McElwee, and my pet peeve are people who don't read the signs right in front of them. Lie at my job when it says not to touch something but people do it anyway. Can people not read these days?

  5. I'm Amber Harmon, and my pet peeve would probably have to be seeing small children (around the ages of 5-8) running around on the side of the streets (busy ones at that) without any sign of parents around to watch them. Common sense seems to be no where to be found anymore these days.

  6. Hi I'm Kaitlyn Moores, and my biggest pet peeve would have to be when I'm trying to watch something on TV and someone else comes in the room half way through the movie or show and expects me to tell them what I'm watching and what's going on. There's nothing more annoying than playing 20 questions when you're trying to concentrate on what you are watching!

  9. Hi my name is Jasset Cole, and the thing that pet peeve me off, is when I'm at work and I see people that are using the internet to conduct inappropriate activities, I think this kind of behavior is very unprofessional and people should consider using their time at work more productive.

  10. Hi my name is Jordan Cook, my pet peeve is when people come in to my job and complain about waiting forever when they have only waited a minute or two. I work at a restaurant and we get busy sometimes so when i am trying to seat someone and another party has to wait they should understand that they need to be patient.

  11. Hi my name is Nick Jackson and my biggest pet peeve is drivers who pull out in
front of me and inhibit my relaxing cruise. I don't mind if someone pulls out
but get on the gas so I don't have to slam on my breaks, or at least have the
decency to wait till I pass you. I would also like to add that the majority of
    these offenders are senior citizens.
